Dr. Loye Ashton

I examined the activities of these educational entrepreneurs and educators abroad, and I was pleased with what I saw

"First of all, regardless of the host country, the educators were providing modern education. They were offering Turkish language classes to their students. And they were offering education in English, which is a prerequisite for scientific development today. Together with the local language, these schools were providing education in three languages. This is a great humanitarian service" mentions Loye Ashton in his article published at Georgetown University in 15th of November 2008

"The promotion of the ideas of tolerance and interfaith dialogue inspired by Fethullah Gülen in his transnational social movement. You do it through your everyday lives and you are truly strengthening the fabric of our common humanity, as well as promoting the ongoing cultural and educational ties that bind our world together" 42nd U.S. President Bill Clinton's delivered his remarks at the 3rd Annual Friendship Dinner by Turkish Cultural Center, New York City, on September 25, 2008

Asure Meeting in Andreaskyrkan ( Andreas Church in Helsinki)

A cold, white Sunday of Helsinki. We were confronted with kindness, warmness by the church authorities and people. After the Sunday' s service we gathered at the cafe of the church and  represented who we are and what is Asure. Delicious Aşure was shared and people started to socialize. As Aşure consisted of many different tastes, again it accomplished its duty to bring another tastes to make a good result. This good result was new friendships and collobration for the good of living in a harmony.

Different Flavours in Asure Day

asuregunumuz

Friends got together at Anatolia Culture Association on a rainy Tuesday evening with the theme of Ashura also known as Noah's Pudding organized by Finland Dialog Association and Anatolia Culture Association.

We met friends from Finland, Turkey and Sweden who all were curious to share this evening and the pudding with us. Ashura is a dessert made of various different flavours. It includes among other things different nuts, grains, fruits... even beans to our friends amazement. Eating of the pudding was also an interesting experience itself for every bite was different and something new.

The pudding is shared every year on a certain day with neighbours and friends to keep up good relations. It is a home made dessert which is cooked carefully a day before the Ashura day starting from the very morning and then shared with people on the actual day.

Our meeting resembled the Noah's Pudding itself with our group consisting different people from different backgrounds. Noah's Pudding continues to be nourishment to humanity by exemplifying how differences can coexist together.

Cheerful Turkey Trip with teachers from Hameenlinna City

Matka Turkkiin huhtikuussa 2011

Ashura

asure

Ashure or Noah's Pudding is a dessert that is made of a mixture consisting of grainsfruits and nuts. Ashure is a part of the culinary tradition of Turkey as well as many of the surrounding countries, and Christian and Jewish cultures as well as Muslim share similar versions under a variety of names. In anecdotal history, it is claimed that when Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat in northeastern TurkeyNoah' s family celebrated with a special dish. Since their supplies were nearly exhausted, what was left (primarily grains, dried fruits and the like) was cooked together to form a pudding, what is now call Ashure.  Traditionally, Ashure is made in large quantities to commemorate the ark's landing and is distributed to friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, classmates, etc. without regard to the recipient's religion or belief system as an offering of peace and love. Ashure was traditionally made and eaten during the colder months of the year as it is calorie rich fare, but now it is enjoyed year-round.
